The Film

Directed, produced, and filmed by Academy Award–nominated and Emmy–winning filmmaker Matthew Heineman, City of Ghosts is a singularly powerful cinematic experience that is sure to shake audiences to their core as it elevates the canon of one of the most talented documentary filmmakers working today. Captivating in its immediacy, City of Ghosts follows the journey of “Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently” – a handful of anonymous activists who banded together after their homeland was taken over by ISIS in 2014. With astonishing, deeply personal access, this is the story of a brave group of citizen journalists as they face the realities of life undercover, on the run, and in exile, risking their lives to stand up against one of the greatest evils in the world today.

Thor Ragnarok -

The God of Thunder’s Quest: Thor Ragnarok**

When Thor: Ragnarok was announced, fans were eager to see how the character would evolve after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron. The previous Thor films, while enjoyable, had received criticism for their serious tone and lack of humor. Taika Waititi, known for his work on films like What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, was brought on board to shake things up and bring a fresh perspective to the character.

Waititi’s approach to Thor: Ragnarok was to make the film a “big, dumb, fun” ride, inspired by classic sci-fi and fantasy movies like Star Wars and The Princess Bride. The director worked closely with screenwriter Christopher Markus to craft a story that would not only showcase Thor’s heroism but also his vulnerability and growth.

The film also marks a turning point for Thor, who would undergo significant character development in the subsequent films. The events of Thor: Ragnarok have far-reaching consequences, affecting not only the Asgardians but also the entire MCU.

The film was also a commercial success, grossing over $854 million worldwide. It became the highest-grossing Thor film at the time of its release and one of the best-performing films of 2017.
