Sarah’s eyes darted around the room, searching for an escape route. But there was none. She was trapped, and Mrs. Johnson knew her secret.
Mrs. Johnson took a deep breath before speaking. “I’ve known you for a while now, Sarah, and I have to say, I’m impressed. You’re a great mother, and your son is lucky to have you.”
Sarah’s eyes widened in surprise. “What do you mean?” she asked, trying to play dumb.
Sarah’s curiosity was piqued. “What is it, Mrs. Johnson?” she asked, her brow furrowed with concern.
“Okay, fine,” Sarah said, throwing up her hands. “You want to know my secret? I’ll tell you. But you have to promise not to tell anyone else.”
Sarah took a deep breath before speaking. “I’m a struggling single mother, trying to make ends meet. I work two jobs, and I’m barely scraping by. But I’ve been making sacrifices, too. I’ve been using my own money to buy groceries and clothes for my son, and I’ve even been skipping meals so he can eat.”
As Mrs. Johnson entered the room, Sarah couldn’t help but notice the serious look on her face. “Hello, Sarah, thank you for coming in today,” Mrs. Johnson said, her voice firm but polite.
Sarah smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. “Thank you, Mrs. Johnson. That means a lot coming from you.”
